Newcastle Eagles have made 6’9” centre Brett Reed (204-F-1996, college: St.Martin's) the latest signing for their 2025/26 Super League Basketball (SLB) roster.

Head coach Marc Steutel’s new big man with inside presence actually played at the Vertu Arena for Spartak Pleven in the European North Basketball League (ENBL) back in October last year.

“Brett is a high-motor skilled big, who will make a great impression with our fans at Vertu Arena”, said Steutel. “He has consistently been a rebounding force and can leave his mark on the game in many ways."

“Brett is at a point in his career where we believe he can play his best basketball and impact winning and I am delighted he will do that in an Eagles jersey. We can’t wait to welcome him for pre-season as we start to build towards our goals both domestically and in European competition."

Reed started last season in Bulgaria’s National Basketball League for Pleven and recorded 4 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in their 75–61 loss to the Eagles in the ENBL group game. The Texan moved on to BC Beroe from Stara Zagora in the same league in December 2024.

Finishing the season well, Reed averaged 15.1 points with 8.4 rebounds per game, which was fourth-best in the Bulgarian top-tier. His stat sheet also boasts 2.9 assists and a fifth-best 1.7 steals per game, and he recorded 7 double-doubles.

“I’m definitely excited to be a part of the Eagles family! I had the opportunity to play on an opposing team in front of the Newcastle fans last year, and I’m very excited to be the opposite side of that now”, said Reed.

“Coach Marc and I have a pretty good relationship, and getting me signed is something we’ve worked very hard to do throughout the summer. Now that the season is approaching I am just beyond ecstatic to be there and experience Newcastle.”

Reed graduated from NCAA Division 2 Saint Martin’s University in 2022 and, over the years that followed, he gained a wealth of valuable European experience he’ll bring to the Eagles’ upcoming ENBL campaign.

The centre’s first professional contract in 2022/23 was with EN Baskets Schwlem in Germany’s Pro-B Division, before he moved on to Koping Stars in the Swedish Basketligan the following year.

“I’m excited to play in both the SLB and ENBL, and be a part of a team that was so successful last year”, the 6’9" American added.

“Playing in Germany, Sweden and Bulgaria, I’ve had different experiences throughout my career, but this is the one I’m most looking forward to. I’ll bring my toughness, rebounding and winning attitude to the team. I hope I’ll have a good impact on the culture, become part of the community, and this year I want to bring home a trophy.”
